And if so, other than that, how much RP posting still classifies as 'only resting?

Is there any way the roll can be mulliganed, just so the player (hi Feature's player!) can join in after IRL decided to be eeeeviiiil?

In 2E, that means you do nothing all day and just sit in your room listening to Staind on full blast.

Which is no fun for a PbP.

Instead, just say do nothing that involves rolls. You can still attend the event and be a party proper.

Hey Fless! I just noticed researching at the Lady's Library grants advantage on Arcana (and other Knowledge) checks. My question is: can that be used to help with Faction tasks?

I'm gonna roll with it for now to speed things up for now, since if it doesn't work that way it's easy to just take the first d20 and change the results accordingly

Also adding another question here - I'm assuming I'd need *another* check to research something on what the heck the Hooded Perv was talking about when they mentioned the 'Balance', or what they might actually be, right?

Could I do that in another thread just continuing at the library for more research?

If it makes sense for the task you have been assigned, then yes.
