Rufus sniffs around the area, after which it stop scrapping against the ground where the claw marks were found, trying to dig underneath remains of the floorboards.

The mighty hound ended up being an equally mighty investigator, just like his legendary counterpart McGruff.

Suppressing another sneeze and blinking through her watering eyes Naila gestures towards the floorboards and Rufus' lead. What lurked beneath? And more importantly, who was swole enough to find out?

Mysti at first examined this basket with charred fruit in it without touching anything. What in blazes was this? Sure, anyone might enjoy a nice juicy apple -- but if the house wizard -- what was his name again? Rhauntades or some such? If it was for his own personal use, why would he have it out in the open where anyone passing by could poach his fruit?

Like arson, Mysti knew next to nothing about magic. At least in terms of the spellcasting variety of magic. All of the chanting and hand-waving and having to walk around with pouches full of batshit -- that kind of thing eluded her. That's what mages were for, she surmised. Could this fruit be part of some kind of ritual? Material components involved with a spell?

She shrugged -- but only in her mind. She had no idea.

And no secret chambers -- no trap doors. She sighed with disappointment. She was really hoping for something exciting like that.

As much as she sometimes detested doing things in this fashion, she felt perhaps it was time to start pulling things together. Couldn't someone else do this? She groaned inwardly, sighed again -- this time with resignation -- and tried to find a somewhat centralized spot where everyone could hear.

Mysti clapped her hands - loudly. "May I have everyone's attention please?" She clapped once more. "Everyone?"

Then she waited to see if people would, in fact, give her their attention. Or would they ignore her completely and continue about their business?

Gabriel eyed the spot Rufus found, with Naila gladly moving there.

He then glanced at Mysti. "Yes ma'am?" He raised an eyebrow. "Can I help you with anything?"

Amelie knelt at the location where she had spotted the scratches, running her fingers along the boards and checking the location further. She heard the telltale sound of a dog sniffing as Rufus found his way to the same location, led by his nose. She looked up at the holder of the animal, offering the creature a quick scratch behind the ear, as long as the owner seemed to approve.

As she searched, she heard someone in the library demand attention. Looking up to the source of the voice, she turned her attention and stood, waiting to see what this stranger may have to say.

Desten had also been about to check out the new evidence uncovered by the dog but then Mysti called for attention and he looked toward her with a bland interest.

Mysti offered everyone a slight smile of thanks as people, surprisingly enough, actually started to listen.

Once she was fairly certain everyone was attentive, she began in a voice just below a shout -- so everyone could hear.

"Alright ... good. I can see that we're all more or less working on our own. I suppose that is fine for the most part. However, we should begin to put our findings together so that we can discern the larger picture and solve this -- rather bizarre occurance. For instance, I found this basket full of fruit -- apples, mostly. Would anyone here know what they might be for? We should begin formulating some theories and reveal them to each other. Perhaps then, something will begin to take shape. We should also begin a systematic interrogation of the witnesses -- many of whom are milling around outside right now. All of them. I think we would all be grateful if we knew what all the pieces of this puzzle were. We've done well so far. We can do even better when actively working together."

She glanced down at the little basket with charred apples in it and scowled at them. "I thought perhaps apples might be used in some sort of ritual? I have very little knowledge of magery. But this is -- quite strange. Baffling, to be truthful."

Once she gave her little speech -- gods, she hated speeches. Public speaking like this was like rolling around on broken glass -- but once she was done, she waited to gauge everyone's reaction. In her mind, her fingers were most certainly crossed.

"I will be right with you all in a moment."

Rubbing ash from her spectacles she makes her way past Amelie with a polite nod before withdrawing a crowbar from her own pack, slotting it neatly into a gap and giving it a heave.

Day 1 EM, crowbaring up the floorboards, DC 12 strength with advantage: 2#1d20 18 60
