(Pregame-??) Work is never over

[L'Orr-hui]

''Where do you think we should start?'' replied the illithid.

The lights dimmed to a more comfortable intensity and a spell was obviously casted, assuming the drow did not resist.

''This process can take quite a long time and can take years to come to fruition. Such is the price for proper healing with without the risk of mental manipulations. The rooms here are all warded against scrying, teleportation and other such magics so feel free to take your ease knowing that what will be said here will remain between us and us alone.''

In the previous room a well dressed rat crawled on the main desk and seemed to assume the role of receptionist.

''Perhaps we should begin with common curtesy. Who are you and where to you come from?''

"I am Fyne. I'm originally from Abeir-Toril. I was raised in my house of Nasadra but that was under Drow society. I got out of there and made for the surface on the Sword Coast with the help of an Eilistraean. Used teleportation in the Faerzaress like a dummy while someone else was casting time stop. The magics interacted and I ended up falling through the demiplane of time. Somewhere in there my mind was locked away and I woke up in an encampment with some of my fellow Eilistraeans, no clue what happened in between. I started having nightmares... well, they're not really nightmares because that's not how elves rest. It's more like my mind peeks into something and obsesses over it as I reverie. I was told by Lirrax on behalf of my patron that I'm supposed to be here in Sigil, but with no guidance or reason behind it. It's a lot of mystery." He rambles a bit to get it out, shifting topics unknowingly.

There is near silence coming from the unseen listener aside from the sound of a pen sliding on paper.

''You said you used teleportation magic while someone was casting a timestop...in a zone of of Faerzaress. What spell did you cast and what was the situation when tried to use it?''

Their telepathic voice was notably calm and rational if somewhat authoritative. Clearly they were taking the subject very seriously.

[Fyne]

"More specifically, I used a magic item to dimension door away. It was a one time use thing that was supposed to get me out of there quickly. But as I was using it the guy that was trying to kill me cast time stop and I think they both triggered in the same moment while being affected by the Faerzaress. My best guess is that the timestop spell and the dimension door mixed in a way neither of us was expecting. I ended up falling through an apparently endless sky in what seemed like the air you would experience in a windswept desert, but no ground in sight, which was apparently the demiplane of time. Apparently it's not easy to get in there. I fell, starving and dehydrating for a few days I think, before I collided with something that was floating around. From there is where my memories fade into waking up in the camp with my allies. I've gathered that what I ran into was either my patron or a servant of my patron. I'm not really sure. I just know that when I woke up my muscle memory felt different and I couldn't use the abilities I trained in as a cleric of Eilistraee. Throwing eldritch blasts around felt second nature, but I don't remember how I learned to use them. And Lirrax showed up not long after as well."

He pets the white pseudodragon gently throughout the whole thing, but looks down at her when he mentions her name.

They listened carefully, very carefully, and caught glimpses of memories. Several notes were made, trying to keep things as straight as possible despite the involuntary twitch of the hand as they delved into the subject.

''Difficult indeed'' they let out carelessly ''If this was truly the semi-plane of time, that is...how much time passed between the magical anomaly and your appearance in the camp?''

A pause, pen tapping the side of their chair

''What is your patron, do you know?''

[Fyne]

"I have no clue on either account. But there are things I intrinsically understand about myself and my powers that I don't remember learning. Almost like my patron went in there and changed things selectively. I mean, I have even questioned if stuff from my past is even true or real. I remember speaking to people about stuff that I haven't met since the incident. So who knows if they're even real or if my memories were messed with? I just kind of operate on the assumption they're real especially anyone that Lirrax has met. She's kind of like an anchor to reality for me. Is it possible for you to determine if a memory is real or corrupted or anything?"

Lirrax continues just relaxing on Fyne as he pets her.

"But I don't even know what to make of that since I can experience all of her senses and speak through her. I know that there are others with such strong bonds with their familiar, but sharing senses and thoughts with another being doesn't exactly straighten out my own."

[L'Orr-hui]

''Possible but difficult'' they admitted ''The unknown nature of your patron and your bond is a problem and a great complication.''

The flayer's gaze shifted to the drow's familiar

''How did you two meet?''

[Fyne]

"Neither of us remembers that. It was during the forgotten period. And her memory was cleared as well. From what I can gather about my patron: they're intentionally cryptic, they are a being of time, and they're a complete asshole," he explains.

[L'Orr-hui]

''How do you know?''

[Fyne]

"Which part? I know Lirrax is telling the truth because I can sense it through our connection. She's tried lying to me when embarrassed or doing stuff that might get us in trouble so I know when she does. And I know my patron is an asshole because I'd rather know than not and my patron would know that. I've spoken with other warlocks and they tend to have some sort of communication with their patron. And they definitely have something to do with time because I have gained an impeccable sense of time. I've been in your building for 613 seconds and in this back room for 461 seconds. And it has been 11,946,617 seconds since I woke up with my memory gone. A mostly useless talent."
