In that instance, I think the theoretical justification is to achieve a sort of coma of the soul, by trapping it within the body while also removing the target's ability to think by themselves.

Illiam'iira nods. That does make its own sort of sense. "Yeah! Two things can be true at once. They can want one thing, but be bound by the material realities of, well, being alive." She looks to Dare Shah with a smile. "It's all about that balancing act. Of your ideals and of living in a world where your ideals aren't always going to save you. Though," She hums softly as she looks back down to the water, "Sometimes the point of having ideals is to choose them, even when it hurts. So I can also understand why the contradiction ... well. Gives one pause. If your goal is true death then acquiring the undead, unless it is out of true devotion -- which, given I am uninformed about such things, might be the truth of the matter? -- seems less like living out the ideal and more dealing with logistics of not having enough living hands." Also why would you need test subjects..? For magic..? Hm. There is much of this world she has yet to understand.
