Leaving Suicide Alley behind, Thaddeus heads over to the Mortuary. If there were more answers to be found, maybe the Dead could give 'em up.

Thaddeus might have received a cold welcome at the gates, but could it be any other from the Dead? Mentioning a familiar Dustman would probably ease the guards' rigour.

Meanwhile, Akh was taking inventory of the new bodies brought that day, looking for any telltale signs of being related to either the matter of the Codex by virtue of jawlessness, or featuring any of the hellish artistry of the Kadyx.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), there have been no murders with jaw removals since the other two.

The illithid was not certain they could help here beyond basic investigation. The realm of flesh was not the matter they had the most mastery over.

Still, something could be learned.

Arriving second this time, L'Orr-hui walked the halls of the mortuary behind the sensate.

After mentioning the name of an Initiate, the dusties at the entrance summoned a zombie worker to guide them to who Thad and L'Orr sought. The worker, number 472 if the puckered scar on its back was any indication, shambled through the halls and up and down stairs until finally they arrived. The smell of embalming fluids along the way had been oppressive, and to be honest, had Thad feeling a bit heady.

"Ah, Akh Uur Hoon, you beat us to it. We came to see if there were any more deaders that cuprilach might've sent your way. Any luck?"

Akh regarded the flayer and the satyr lifelessly, taking her gaze off the records she had on the lectern.

"It isn't unfortunate that there are none such this time, even though it doesn't further our joint pursuit. But I've learned some important information over this afternoon, so your coming won't be in vain."

''Interesting. I would also like to know about the corpse of the apprentice if I am allowed''

Akh nodded and repeated what she remembered, not dwelling on the method of memory retrieval.

"Hmmm, I see what you mean when you told Jemorille you thought the book was alive... That or John was full on barmy. Probably a bit of both to be fair. Then there's Silentblade wigwagging in his brainbox, tryin' to influence the lad. If I had to listen to that one jabberin' away with no escape, I'd go barmy too.

Interestin' idea of his to toss the book into the void though. 'Splains why he was in Suicide Alley. That book must've been right there when I tumbled to 'em. If I'd only known what was at stake then...

As the Guvners like to say, knowledge is power. If I'd had a bit more knowledge then, I could've put Silentblade in his place then and there. But I'll take all the knowledge I can going forward. You said you'd scanned somethin' important Akh Uur Hoon?"

"I've scanned the dark of the Codex itself." She checked if she had the attention of both, then presented the facts as well as she could, without much speculative addenda. Her dead seriousness helped convey the enormity of the Codex's powers. In different circumstances she would wonder if there was wisdom in educating an Illithid arcanist about such powers but at this point she had no guarantee the tome was in any better hands.

[I was said to have learnt the Wiki entry.]

"...The powers of the Codex are somehow constrained in Sigil, however, by the Lady's prohibitions against wanton summoning and planeswalking."
