Now that's just depressing... (D6, EM, Taxes)

One of the things Feature learned in their time at the Gatehouse, and with the Bleakers, was that the best way - maybe the only way - to find some reason to keep going day after day was to make that reason yourself. Make meaning, make fun. Just looking around for it would never do - there probably wasn't even any to be found.
Of course, making your own way, your own fun and your own meaning is never exactly easy. There's bound to be days when it gets hard.
As much as Feature liked a number of things related to maths.... trying to navigate a pile of documents and laws to calculate taxes was definitely not what they thought of as fun, or meaningful, or any of that. It was almost like trying to find a single, hidden meaning in occult texts, but instead of mysterious symbols there were convoluted wordings, and instead of a slippery ultimate sense there were just a few less coins you'd have to give away.
It was almost impossible not to lose sight of yourself, one could almost feel the siren call of utter madness somewhere in the distance...
The happy modron had the same usual smile on their lips all the while - although it looked a bit like a distorted grin at times as they went about the Fated tax codes time after time. One looking at them intently would notice the grin getting more and more misshapen each time they looked at the files - they *did* consider themselves rather good at research, but this was just all so dreary!
At some point, they just gave up...
At least, when the time came to turn in the receipts and all the documents to the tax collector, they had a trick up their sleeve.
Quite literally.
OOC:
Hive roll
D6 EM - Taxes! Hive roll | 1d100 ⇒ 68
Roll 1: Investigation - Fail!
D6 EM - Taxes! Investigation vs TN 20 (Rolling with GM permission despite Depression!) | 1d20+10 ⇒ 15
Roll 2: Sleight of Hand - Pass
D6 EM - Taxes! Sleight of Hand vs TN 20 (Rolling with GM permission despite Depression!) | 1d20+18 ⇒ 26
If I understood correctly, Feature would have to pay (15 + 5% for one failure) = 20% of their total gold in taxes. If that's correct, he's paying 59 gold, 1 silver, 8 copper.
