[Whisper]

"And your tressym, once we find one." he grinned. "Maybe we should start with that, instead. We could travel to Faerûn and look for one."

[Mysti]

"Ah yes, yes, the flying cat!" Mysti nodded. "I was going to ask you about them and completely forgot. I must've gotten sidetracked."

She fell silent for a moment, perhaps thinking about having a tressym.

"So they're in Faerun? No wonder I haven't seen any. Can't say I've been there. Though I've met a few people who claim to be from, oh, somewhere ..."

She tapped a finger impatiently on the table.

"Oh, right ... the Sword Coast? I think? It's been awhile. Anyway ... do you know much about them? The tressyms, I mean. Hopefully they're not too difficult to ... well, not domesticate, per se, but you know what I mean."

[Whisper]

"Not much." he admitted. "I know that they exist and that there are some in Faerun. That's where I heard about them, at least. I ended up in Faerun after leaving the forest. I spent a lot of time there, trying to find a way back."

[Mysti]

"I'm not sure where I heard about them ... oh wait, I remember now."

Mysti stopped to gather her thoughts. By the tone of her voice, she was obviously impressed by what she had seen.

"A few years ago, my path crossed with this paladin -- or warlock. She was actually both, to be honest, but I haven't a clue how she would describe herself. She was the kind of person you'd expect from a fairy tale. She rode in on a unicorn, of all things. Absolutely, impeccably clean -- every metal object from her jewelry to her armor gleamed in the light as if the metal itself was aglow. No doubt, too, many a man's heart broke on the spot simply by looking at her beauty."

She took a few moments to finish off her ale -- and continued while pouring herself another drink.

"She wasn't ... she wasn't exactly human. She looked sort of elvish, but not quite. And she was a telepath who could gift others the power of telepathy, as well, so she could speak silently to someone of her choosing. I'm telling you, Whisper -- some people have too much luck for their own good. Too many blessings and few flaws. Even her voice was like something you'd expect to hear from an angel.."

Another gulp of ale.

"Her name was ... Amberlee. Yeah. That was it. Amberlee. Of course, perched there on her shoulder like a pirate's parrot, its wings helping to keep it steady, was a tressym. As if having a unicorn for a mount wasn't enough -- she had a tressym, too. Said she had just gotten back from fighting in the Abyss ... like she just got back from the store buying a new hat. All casual and cavalier. Anyway ... I did a job for her. Paid enough so I could live in relative luxury for -- a long time. But ... that's when I saw one of those flying cats for the first time. I happen to enjoy the company of cats -- and one that flies was too good to pass up. Hopefully with your, uh ... ranger skills, we can convince one to tag along. I don't want to force it -- do you know how intelligent they are? Amberlee's tressym seemed smarter than the average cat -- but maybe not quite sentient."

A pause.

"I must admit, I am a little envious of you and Hush. I would very much like to have a companion like that. Granted I wouldn't expect a tressym to guard me or fight for me the way Hush does for you -- but -- I'm more interested in simply having an animal companion." She snickered lightly and gave Whisper a pointed look. "Maybe I should've been a ranger."

[Whisper]

"I don't know how intelligent they are." He shrugged. "I wouldn't be surprised if they were smart, though. I know elven cats are."

[Mysti]

"Elven cats? I thought tressym were elven cats .... hmm ... then I've never seen an elven cat. Have you?"

She swirled her drink around by moving her mug in small circles, watching the little whirlpool develop in the center.

"I bet they're cute, though. How do you think Hush would get along with a tressym? And the old cat and dog rivalry?"

[Mysti]

Mysti suddenly fixed Whisper with a serious-looking expression. Perhaps a little hopeful, as well.

"You know ... we should get together in a better location than the barracks, hmm? We could find somewhere else to go. A place with substantially more beauty -- and significantly more privacy. Though we might have to bring our own refreshments."

She snickered a little at her own words -- as if there was a double meaning present that only she understood. But she quickly returned to being more serious.

"By the way -- have you ever felt like just walking through a portal? Even if you had no idea where it went? Granted, it's slightly dangerous since you could end up in the middle of the Blood War -- or on a plane that doesn't even support our kind of life. But I'm guessing most won't be like that. Not with the countless prime worlds out there. I don't know. Was just curious if you ever had that urge."

[Whisper]

"I definitely have had that urge, to enter the unknown." he nodded. "But, going wherever you might have in mind right now, sounds more interesting."

[Mysti]

Mysti chuckled again as she considered the situation. Meanwhile, she stretched herself, arcing her back like a cat. A soft growly moan of pleasure followed.

Then she stood up from the table and stretched even further. "Been sitting there for quite awhile," she said by way of explanation. She did a few little twists at the waist trying to limber herself up.

"So tell me, Whisper -- in all seriousness -- I know you grew up in one of those dark forests which, admittedly, I enjoy very much. But what kind of environment do you enjoy the most? In other words -- if you could be anywhere in existence right now, where would it be?"

She stopped her bouncy stretches, giving Whisper her full, undivided attention.

[Whisper]

(Sorry for the long delay. I was checking for new posts, instead of just mine, and it wasn't showing up.)

He watched her stretch for a few moments before answering. "Anywhere new."

"I enjoy discovering new places and exploring new environments." he explained as he stood. "But, I do really like forests. And, I do really like dark places."

He didn't stretch, instead choosing to lean against the wall.
